Janie’s Cakes makes the Finest Pound Cakes in the World. We can make that claim because of our founder and inspiration, Janie Clapp.
Janie is a cheerful breath of fresh air, a stickler for detail, and a pound cake perfectionist. You’ll meet her when you come visit us. And by the way, Janie's bright smile and warm heart are baked into every pound cake!
Like other people who bake for a living, Janie learned her craft from a family member. Her great-grandmother, whom she called “Papu,” passed down years of recipes and baking techniques to her great-granddaughter. As she grew up, Janie knew that she would make her career in baking.
Celebrating 20 years! - After honing her skills at the Culinary Institute of America in White Plains, NewYork, Janie opened Janie’s Cakes in January of 1987. The company has been continuously baking and shipping cakes for over 20 years in Tyler, Texas.
Janie's Bakehouse, our state-of-the-art production facility, is where we produce from scratch all or our products from cakes to sauces to curds and biscotti. The bakehouse resides in the historic, newly remodeled Coats-McCain Lumber Co. building, a Tyler landmark.
Janie lives on a working Texas cattle ranch, The Rockin' C Ranch (www.rockincranch.org). Her cattle rancher husband, Matt, also runs a summer camp for kids, hosting, housing and feeding over 1000 ranch hand campers every summer. (Click on the article to read about Matt and the Rockin' C)
The ranch has over fifty horses, seven dogs, three-hundred cows, five goats, three pigs and three hundred chickens (which provide eggs for her cakes!). Janie and Matt have two children and two grandchildren.
"I feel strongly about charitable giving on a personal level, but I also believe that small business and corporations have a responsibility to support the communities that make them successful. That’s why Janie’s Cakes actively supports the efforts of The Rockin’ C Ranch, a Christian summer camp for kids located on a working Texas cattle ranch.
Each year Janie’s Cakes donates cakes, dollars and time to raise money for the Rockin’ C Ranch scholarship fund needed to help send kids to camp that would not otherwise be able to afford the cost. The Rockin’ C provides financial assistance to over half of its campers. Without this support many of these kids would miss out on one of life’s greatest childhood pleasures, summer camp. Janie's Cakes Doesn't stop there. Over the years we have supported dozens of local charities including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (Photo left - The Janie's Cakes team at the Race for the Cure event in Tyler), Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County, The East Texas Crisis Center, Young Audiences of Northeast Texas, American Cancer Society, Living Alternatives, the Junior League of Tyler and many, many others.
I urge everyone reading this to get your own companies involved in community charities. Individual participation is important, but corporate participation, like compound interest, maximizes the results."
